Jonny Tuffey, Crusaders Football Club and the Irish Cup Quarter-Final Preview
First contested in 1881, the Irish Cup is the fourth oldest national cup competition in the world. The winners of the inaugural final, on the 9th of April 1881 were Moyola Park who beat Cliftonville 1 - nil to lift the trophy. Since that fine April day, in 1881, a total of 24 clubs have won the Irish Cup with only 13 clubs winning it more than once. Linfield Football Club are the Cups most successful team, winning the trophy a total of 44 times. Their most recent win came in 2021, when PREMIERGK goalkeeper Chris Johns lifted the famous trophy in a pair of PREMIERGK Legacy goalkeeper gloves. What a day that was for the PREMIERGK brand. Our first Irish Cup win!
Today, Saturday the 4th March at 3pm, our PREMIERGK eyes will most definitely be focussed on what is happening at Seaview Stadium in Belfast. PREMIERGK goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey and his Crusaders Football Club team mates will be trying to progress into the semi-finals of the illustrious cup competition by knocking out Belfast rivals, Glentoran FC. Glentoran are the second most successful Irish Cup winning team with a total of 23 wins, their last cup win coming during Covid in 2020. Crusaders, on the other hand have won the cup a total of 5 times.
Crusaders, and Jonny, are the current holders of the Irish Cup after winning an 'All PREMIERGK' final in 2022. On that day in May, PREMIERGK were represented for the first time by both starting no.1's. We had Jonny of Crusaders and Jordan Williamson of Ballymena. It was a great day for us and a great game that certainly lived up to the hype. Both PREMIERGK's had great games but it was Jonny and Crusaders who were victorious on this occasion, winning the Final 2-1 after extra time.
Today's match is going to be an absolute belter and is set up brilliantly with both clubs fighting it out towards the top of the Irish Premiership. Crusaders currently sit 4th with 57 points, while Glentoran sit in 6th place with 52 points. Both teams' goalkeepers are having great seasons within the Premiership. Jonny has kept 12 clean sheets, 4th in the overall standings with Glentoran's Aaron McCarey keeping a total of 14.
As for Jonny and the gloves...he will be wearing the PREMIERGK LASER. What Laser...we will have to wait and find out! We cant wait to see him in action. Jonny joined PREMIERGK in June 2019 and has been instrumental in the growth of the brand. Initially, while playing for Glenavon, he wore our Contact V1 and Contact V2 goalkeeper gloves. He then supported us with the design of our very popular LEGACY range of goalkeeper gloves that again saw our popularity within Northern Ireland and the Irish football league grow.

In May 2020, Jonny joined us, during Lockdown, on our Podcast to chat about his career to date and everything he has achieved and since then has moved onto Crusaders - adding another Irish Cup medal to his collection.
All of us at PREMIERGK are delighted to see a goalkeeper of Jonny's standard and experience representing the brand on a weekly basis and look forward to working together with him on the development of our next goalkeeper glove range launching this summer.
I know we are biased, but lets hope for a great Irish Cup match today, with Jonny having a stormer! COME ON CRUSADERS!
